Here it is. The process is in the works. The article says that there are up to 11 teams thinking of leaving the UCI and starting their own “league”. Let’s see where the USAC ends up in all this. I’m not sure where I stand on this. I guess I don’t really have an opinion because I don’t have enough information to formulate one. I’m sure there is going to be plenty of that over the next few weeks/months.
What more can someone say that Eric Cartman hasn’t already said… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyltK6pmJGg
what a share.
This reminds me of the threats coming from the big European Soccer clubs and F1 over the last 5-10 years. This is what happens when a governing body tries to dictate too much to the competitors who actually fill the governing body members’ pockets with big paychecks!
The cyclists have already proved they’re bigger than the UCI (TDF pulling out of the ProTeam Calendar, etc.) so the blindered folk at the UCI had better accept that they will be visibly backing down to the riders and just back down!
First, multiple federations can happen. We already have that situation here in the U.S. with healthy racing scenes in Oregon and Colorado and no USAC presence.
The breakaway group needs **races** AND a live video feed more than they need a bunch of director sportifs. Pat has consistently disparaged the Giro and scheduled the California Training ride against it. I wonder if they could get the Giro to sign up?
Tour of Battenkill and Tour of Utah are two good U.S. candidates for another federation.
The UCI has demoted a large number of monument-worthy events that don’t belong to ASO in Europe over the years. Maybe they can assemble a calendar that way?
