Christmas Day Bike Ride in Chicago

This entry was posted in Fun Stuff on by .

A couple days ago I wrote about what I usually do in Chicago on Christmas Day and now a few guys have contacted me about wanting to ride with me on my annual Christmas Day ride in Chicago.  I called a couple of them back and we decided we are going to meet at the Starbucks by the Randhurst Mall in Mt. Prospect at 11:30 and probably just head over towards Lake Michigan and do a 2-3 hours ride towards Chicago.  That route is always up to modification, depending on how many guys show up, wind, weather, whatever.  So, I guess I’m inviting about anyone else that wants to get out of the house tomorrow for a little while and ride some.   I headed towards downtown the last few years because the roads are really abandoned and everyone seems so friendly on Christmas Day.  One of the very few days that downtown isn’t chaos.  Casual, no racing, just a way to burn off some calories and get some fresh air.

I wonder if Gus is in town?

Christmas Morning

This entry was posted in Just Life on by .

Hi.  Can’t believe it but I’m a little short of time already on Christmas morning.  Plus, I’m feeling a little under the weather.  Boo on that.

Last night I decided to fix the slate entryway at Trudi’s mom’s house for her Christmas present. I had to wait until she went to bed, so to surprise her.  Trudi’s dad put the slate in decades ago, on masonite, and the grout was pretty much nonexistent.  It was a pretty easy project, I’d bought the tools and grout at Home Depot yesterday out shopping.  It took a couple hours and looks great, but I didn’t get to sleep until after 2 am.

This morning we had a great breakfast and I have an hour to open presents and then head over and meet a bunch of new guys to ride to Evanston and then into downtown Chicago.  Like I said above, I’m feeling a little weird, kind of a queasy stomach and headache, but I’m not passing up this ride.

I hope everyone a simple Christmas and hope you truly enjoy the day.

Original floor. The grout was really done.

It was super easy to remove. You can see the masonite in the cracks.

It looks pretty good. I like the idea of giving gifts of labor or handmade stuff. I don't do it nearly often enough.

Truid's mom's wine corkscrew. It is an antique, but works pretty great.
