Rainy Day

This entry was posted in Just Life on by .

It is raining here in Northern Wisconsin this morning and my mind isn’t moving so fast this morning, so I’m just going to post a few photos from yesterday. I’m a little sore from the wood chopping ordeal, but not so bad. Mainly my hamstrings from leaning over. Bill is a gimp from crashing, but he maned-up and did the whole ride yesterday. We rode over to Cable, did the singletrack down to past the high point and then back to Cable and home. It was a little over 20 miles. My hand isn’t so good on singletrack. The grip thing is a problem. I’m going to talk to my friend Stacie about what I need to do today hopefully.

I had some weird dreams last night. I’d forgotten to call Burt, my PT guy at Rebound Physical Therapy, to tell him I wouldn’t be around this week, so I got up early to do that. In my dreams I was showing up for PT and Burt said I had to go down to the basement. I was pretty sure I’d never seen the basement. When we went down there, it was like a scene out of Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome. A little city, like Bartertown, with 1000’s of people working in horrible conditions with livestock. Burt said my PT would be there from now on. It wasn’t exactly a nightmare, but it was a little disturbing. I’m going to look for the basement door when I get back to Topeka.

Okay, like I said, I’m moving a live slow this morning, so that’s all I got…..

This is most of the wood so far cut and split.

Dennis made these little benches for the fire pit while I was doing all the "real work".

We drove to Hayward and stopped by Riverbrook Bike shop. I had never really checked out Fat-bikes much. I would have thought that I would never own one. But after riding this, I changed my mind. It was light, rolled and accelerated great.

The 1 X 11 chain and chainrings are pretty strange. I guess it helps keep the chain on the front without a keeper.

The high point on the Birkie course. It was nice being up there nearly at sunset.

Cross Vegas Live Tonight

This entry was posted in Racing on by .

Okay, CyclingDirt.com is charging to watch the event. I don’t normally have a problem paying for content, but the price seems a little out of line for what I would be receiving. So, you can click the link and sign up or just wait until tomorrow, it’s your choice.

Cross Vegas is Live starting at 9:45 CST, that is in an hour and a half approximately. Watch Sven Nys come play over here for his first cross race back in the US since he won the Worlds in Lousiville. He’ll be wearing his World Championship jersey he won in February. This is a pretty cool event to watch in person, being able to see the majority of the course from the top of the ridge. I’ve raced the event two or three times and it’s one of the few races that I’ve sworn off forever. I have never been able to breathe after a couple laps and cough brown and green stuff out of my lungs for at least a couple weeks after. Barry Wicks once wrote a piece about Cross Vegas for Velonews from the perspective of his nose. He experienced the same thing. Fertilizer or something on the soccer field. Anyway, I’ll watch it from afar, which is fine by me. KC local honch, Shadd Smith is going to be toeing the line tonight. Good luck to him! Click here for the link at CyclingDirt.com. Enjoy.
