New Bike

This entry was posted in Comments about Cycling on by .

I’ve been doing busy work all morning trying to finally get my new bike together today. Now I have to do the drive up to Irvine, to Shimano, to get some parts. I don’t mind having to go up there. I like catching up with Wayne and the guys in person. Hopefully I’ll have enough stuff to put it together tonight and ride it tomorrow.

My friend Vincent, from Arvada, is flying out here tomorrow and I’m looking forward to showing him some of the rides in North County. He was out here late last year, but was staying in downtown Sand Diego, so didn’t get much of a chance to head North or East to see the good riding.

I’ve also been trying to make contact with someone at Redlands about finding a team to ride for there. I haven’t been on an official team at Redlands since I rode for the British National MTB team way back. There were only 3 of us, which is odd, and I’m not British. I hope it works out somehow.

Okay, just a short update. I need to get driving. I don’t want to get stuck in traffic on the way back down.

My new Eriksen frame. I've had it awhle, just never had the chance to put it together. It's all internally routed for Di2, with a custom holder for the battery in the seatpost. I'll post more about it later.

I saw this cool shrine on La Costa Blvd. last weekend. I like to stop on look at these. The glass thing, with the jellyfish look, seems pretty expensive. There is a pair of socks on the top right, plus the teddy bear. I wonder who this is for?

Nice to get a free frame and then drive up to the national headquarters for Shimano USA to get your free parts – I wouldn’t mind driving there either.

Love it how you’ve placed the new frame “oh-so-casually” behind the Ferrari 308 GT 😉

It’s not a ‘GT’ – it is a GTB which means full roof – not targa – GTS model has the removable roof. The ’30’ in 308 designates the liters (3.0) and the 8 designates the # of cylinders. Old car probably a 1979-80 vintage – most people over 6ft cannot fit into it – bad ergonomics. They sell for less than new Toyota’s on eBay.

I don’t really grasp the regular kvetching about Tilly getting “free” stuff. He’s a professional, sponsored bike racer. That’s part of the gig. Paid for with an amount of work that would put most everyone reading this blog to shame.

If Tilford is a professional then he shouldn’t have to write about driving up to the Shimano USA headquarters to “hopefully I’ll have enough stuff to put it together tonight and ride it tomorrow” (you know he will get anything he wants from Wayne) – nothing but plugs for Eriksen frames and Shimano – not the reason for this blog.

Tilly, do some masters MTB racing out in Cali to race against Johnny “O show” O’mara.

Ted your comments are typically mean spirited, and always with a touch of arrogance… As in know-it-all. As for Tilford, the man is in his mid fifties and well past his professional sporting prime, but still capable of riding with the younger men. He still gets free stuff because he is fast and an ambassador of the sport. Of course he is going to plug his sponsors. Why are you so bitter?

Mean spirited? Just pointing out that this forum should not be used to plug equipment or frames that Tilford gets as part of his sponsorship deal with either Shimano or Eriksen – don’t need that to be forcefed to me – not bitter – just my opinion. The frame looks like it is from the 1990’s anyway and I designed and built titanium bikes in Eastern Europe 20 YEARS AGO so I can speak from a position of bike racer and manufacturer – which you cannot as DUCKY.

Frame looks pretty darn sweet to me.- Traditional with the modern mods that make sense and a life-time frame. Not one crash and questionable.
    -That’s my opinion.
If it bothered me what is written or plugged on this blog I simply won’t come here and read it.
Oh, and it looks like a threaded BB..

Oh and guess you better get some back up Di2 Steve, ’cause you aint switch back to mech in a pinch 🙂

Agreed. This is Tilford’s space and he can write about whatever he wants to write about. No one has the right to tell him otherwise.

    Ted,

This is not a forum, this is some dudes website, where he can do and say whatever the hell he wants. Ive never actually been to a person’s blog where he plugs his sponsored products less than tilford. Sure, he mentions that he likes Ti bikes and likes shimano, and there is no arguing that erkison is an elite Ti manufacturer. Im sure if he didn’t like Ti bikes or shimano he would ride something else, as Im guessing that any brand and company would jump at the chance to give him free shit given the traffic this site draws. Furthermore, tilford is not above calling a spade a spade, like when he has Di2 failure, etc.

Ted- Do you have a website or something else we can collectively critique you on? Maybe your handlebars are too low or your seat is too high? that link the previous poster had from the old man bicycle site was f’ing hilarious, thanks.

Don’t get me wrong, TIlford is for sure rip-able at times….but not when it comes to showing us photos of his bike….on his own website ….which you are choosing to read.

Don’t go away and don’t change a thing, Ted. Every forum needs a resident clown. You are actually good fun.

Steve you’re my only hope, please save me – I am trapped in Dubai as a plaything for some pervert Sheikh. I thought Michael Ball and Brendan Quirk were bad but this this guy is really out there. He says if Stetina doesn’t send me a new Di2 group I will have to ride a flea bitten camel to my next race.

Kent’s frame just won the North American Hand made bike best road frame award last week, plus best TIG welded frame. Glad I ordered mine a couple of months ago before the price increase since he won! The internal cable routing for the Di2 is very cool. Can’t wait.

Oh Ted. I thought you might be able to rise above the Jealous Prick thing.

    Very cliche and desperate.

I never called anyone a name on this post – never mind used derogatory language – just posted my comments like anyone else has the right to do so here.

This is Steve’s blog – I raced with Steve and I have been a member of the US Cycling Team and designed and built my own titanium bike which was sold by Performance Bikes – which is more than anyone on this site can claim – even Tilford – no offense to Steve.

I own 12 cars and a couple bikes – should be the other way around – but there is no jealously – most are Mercedes. Steve does his own thing and I respect him for that. I have been friends with him since 1980 – more than anyone on this site can claim – with a very few exceptions without naming people directly.

  18. Ted Lewandowski

Actually the real clown is you – do you actually own a bike – or you just a troll?

I love the look of titanium frames. They just look so right somehow. This one looks especially beautiful.

    I hope it rides GREAT!

    Ted,
Every time you post something else to this thread you prove more and more you are a clown,an A$$ clown. I am 100% sure that nobody cares what kind of cars you drive or what your credentials are for posting your opinion on here. It seems like you are on the outside looking in and are extremely bitter about it. One thing is for sure you don’t have to read this blog.
