Ranger – Dog Heaven

This entry was posted in Important Life Stories on by .

My dog friend Ranger, joined the other pure animal souls and is running around like crazy with all our other passed pet companions tonight. Ranger was dealing with cancer for nearly 3 years now. His family, Don, Sue and Kaya, will miss him dearly. I was lucky to have gotten to spend a week with Ranger recently. I knew I wouldn’t see him again, so I sat down and talked to him about the “rules”. I told him that my dog George, would take care of him, show him the ropes. That he could chase my cat friends, and Bugsy, a white rabbit, but no nipping or scaring them too bad.

Ranger was a great dog, was always up for any distance you wanted to go in the mountains. Just last weekend, he went for a 3 hour hike with Don, Sue & Kaya, at one of his favorite places in the world, Idyllwild, CA. What a way to spend your last days. I know our animals feel how much we rely on them for companionship and love. It is a near perfect symbiotic relationship. I was very fortunate to know Ranger. I hope to meet up with him again.

It’s sad about the pooch. I love dogs, bikes, and just a few people. Dogs and bikes seldom ever let you down. Ranger looks like he/she was a great dog. – J

    Sorry about Ranger’s passing.

Your posts about dogs are my favorites, I think. Way better than Lance.

Serendipity….I had ”put down” Percy 4/18/14. Feel exactly as you do Steve….dog friends are ”Buddha Teachers” ..All-ways in the moment…don’t lie ever,….ready to be happy at any time….don’t hold grudges…And good judges of the ”inner person”. Anyway I am sorry for the loss….when I open my door after work and I don’t see him at the door….well, it feels like there is a Hole in my life now. I will see him again too…maybe our dogs are sniffing and chasing each other right now. Peace out..joe

What a sweet puppy, sad he’s gone. Coincidentally my Aussie’s BFF is named Ranger too.

And my dog loves MTB-ing in Idyllwild, we have a place up there.

Such a downer when they go.

Sad to hear about Ranger. It was good to have met him. Hope he enjoys being with all the other dog/animal souls. I will let Stanley know whom to look for once he gets up there….

    Steve,
Thank you for the touching tribute to Ranger, my wild child, and to all pets in heaven.
They break our hearts when they pass, but the unique perfection of the giving/receiving relationship we have with them makes it worth it, a thousand times over.
Your pet heaven is a fun and joyful place, and I am comforted to know that Ranger was very happy to arrive there.

Ranger lived his life to fullest right up to last weekend.. I was fortunate enough to know him. He loved our back yard and would hunt and sniff out all the rabbits and lizards for hours on end. Sue and Don rescued Ranger and I know he must of thought he won the lottery soon after.. Dogs are here to remind us how short our lives are..And yes I agree when Steve writes about dogs I cry like a baby..
