Chequamegon Morning

This entry was posted in Racing on by .

There are only 5 of us staying here at Dennis’ compound, so it seems a little tame here this morning. Last year there was a house full. Triathlete Gwen Jorgensen was here along with her boyfriend Pat (and Pat’s dad), but she was racing today in London. I’m checking out the results right after this. It is nice though being a little less hectic.

The race starts at 10 am. It is below 40 degrees right now, so it is going to be a cold roll out. I haven’t really checked out who are the heavy hitters here. I know for sure that Matt Busche, Radioshack, last year’s winner, isn’t going to be here. He’s helphing out Chris Horner in the Tour of Spain today. Man, choices, choices. I doubt Christian Vande Velde, Garmin is coming, but you never know. Then it is the same old guys-Brian Matter, Tristan, Cole House, etc.

I think the field at Chequamegon is a better field that Leadville. For sure it is. The first three or four guys at Leadville are usually stellar, but Chequamegon has more depth. That is just my opinion.

Okay, I’m going to take Bromont for a romp in the woods and then load up. Warming up for this in the cold after riding at over 100 degrees this past week in Kansas is going to be a challenge. It’s 60 + degrees colder than I’m “used” to. Actually, I’d much rather have it be in the 40’s than over 100. I’ll update this after the race. I had one of those days. Wasn’t happening. I’ll write about it more later. Brian Matter won again. Chloe Woodruff won the women’s race for her first time. Lots of stories and memories. Okay, have to make it back for the awards ceremony.

Men's podium - TJ Woodruff 3rd, Brian Matter, 1st, Michael Olheiser, 3rd.
