Winter Blues

It’s a rainy day here in Kansas. I woke up feeling pretty run down. That is sort of surprising to me since I rode inside yesterday for over an hour and didn’t feel half bad. And, I sort of slept a lot of the night.

I just got done watching the TT at Paris-Nice. Went pretty much as I thought. I am surprised that Richie Porte only rode 4 seconds slower than Wiggins time of last year. But, it is a different year and different conditions, so it’s not really fair comparing the two.

There are 3 races within 3 hours of my house today. The local Perry Training Series, the SaltyTall down in Tulsa and Froze Toes in Columbia Missouri. I’ve raced all three of the races multiple times and am sulking that I have to be sitting on my couch watching Paris-Nice. It is surprising to me how much trouble I am having just understanding that this is going to take a while and to just chill. I usually have pretty okay form this time of the year, left over from cross, so I normally do alright now. It is hard just sitting.

The new refrigerator hasn’t shown up yet. Yesterday I got a call saying that they would be loading it on the truck at 7:30, deliverying it at 9am. Here it is 11 and no call or anything. That is sort of the way it works in the US nowadays. Disappointing.

I got a couple surprises last week. A couple, after the fact gifts that I wasn’t expecting. One was from my friend, Nathan Sheafor. Nathan went to Topeka High with me and rode with Lance on the 1992 Olympic Team. He lives up in Oregon now and blows glass for a living. Anyway, when I got back from Colorado, there was a box in my hall, with a beautiful glass piece and a very nice note. See below.

Second was a baseball bat from Trudi. It’s a Louisville Slugger, from Louisville, obviously, and it was personalized with the Cyclo-X Worlds results. Pretty cool.

Anyway, both of these things are super special and I’ll keep them forever. Thanks.

I guess I’m going to wait around until the refrigerator shows and then head over to Perry to watch. I doubt that is going to improve my mood much, but it’s better than sitting around the house all day on a rainy day.

This is the glass piece that Nathan sent.

The Louisville Slugger bat. I'm definitely going to hit some balls with it when my shoulder is better.

Re: Paris-Nice and today’s time trial times: this year’s course was 100 meters longer than last year.

steve, seen in your other post you walked 10 miles. were you sore anywhere? lower legg shin area, or upper groin area. thats a long way if you havent been walking. did you walk a normal pace the whole way, maybe 15-16-17 minute miles, or did you walk a bit, stop and chat, walk more etc.. you’re fit enough to walk 100 miles , but just curious if you were sore the next day..

Dude, you aren’t the first rider to suffer an injury that takes time to heal. Stop the pity party and your ‘woe is me’ blogs. Gary Ziegler, at age 62, came back from the same injury last year to place 3rd in the 40+ at Salt Creek.
Just quit feeling sorry for yourself and be grateful you get to ride a shitload more than the majority of guys your age.

I don’t know if handling is something you can learn any better or practice at, especially on the World Tour: you’ve either got it, or you don’t. And that’s what separates the good from the great.

Peter Sagan probably doesn’t (but I don’t know for sure) descend over and over to learn how to go fast, just like I bet he doesn’t practice no handed wheelies anymore. You figure those things out when you’re 8 or you don’t figure them out at all.

You’ll find some intriguing points in time in this post but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is certainly some validity but I will take hold opinion until I appear into it further. Good post , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner at the same time
