Windy Bazaar Weekend

This entry was posted in Racing on by .

It is the day we all race the Bazaar Road Race here in Kansas. I’m not able to do it this year, but here in Topeka the wind is already blowing close to 30 mph, so down southwest, the wind has to be much stronger. It is a going to be a gutter riding extravaganza. Bazaar was my first race ever, nearly 4 decades ago. I’ve won it a few times, but would love to be doing it today.

I think that Bill might be doing a MTB race over in Lawrence. I believe there is a 3 hour and 6 hour race. Bill would most likely do the 3 hour, but you never know.

Brian Jensen went down to Austin and raced the Austin Rattler 100 km. yesterday. He did great and finished 3rd. Tristan Uhl won, with JT Cody finishing 2nd, Brian, then my buddies Robbie Robinette and Stefan Roth rounding out the top 5. This race was a Leadville 100 Qualifier, so all these guys could potentially race there. I might try my hand at that depending on how this shoulder thing goes.

Amstel Gold had a pretty good finish. It looked for a little bit like Gilbert was going to be able to repeat his World’s finish, but it was not to be. Roman Kreuziger (Saxo-Tinkoff) was just too strong at the end.

Okay, I’m destined to just ride my bike around Topeka in the wind and drizzle. It is supposed to be in the 70’s today, but thunderstorms, then lose 30 degrees tomorrow and for the next few days and be miserable again. Big change from California weather.

The Bazaar race is held down in a beautiful area of Kansas, between Topeka and Wichita.

Past few days have been normal weather for this time of year in Austria . Plenty of warm sunshine in the morning but westerly wind coming in mid afternoon .

Out this morning joining a variety of groups making their first foray of their Spring , me in summer uniform & them in winter wear . Pity i can’t put up the photos here , see the blog later ?

We get the Amstel at 1300GMT on Eurosport , so after sitting eating lunch in the sun i was able to watch the Dutch enjoy their first taste of Spring and the efforts of Orico to put an Aussie across the line . Gerrans did make the podium in 3rd but disappointed for Weening , losing ground , to finish 6th?

Now all i want , is to see those 3 Aussies in Augusta , clean up ! Found Cadel Evan’s wife’s blog and as Tuesday will be my 15th visit to the Giro del Trentino , i hope he will bring the ” lil Man & wife , with him : http://www.chiaraandthelittlesparrows.com/2013/04/single-mums-out-there.html?spref=tw

BTW , the ” muppet show ” in dublin , nominated phat mc splat for the 3rd term of ” U niformly C orruptly I ncompetents “! Whilst this was taking place , phat was resurrecting the 2001 Tour de Suisse fiasco . He contends that below 80% , is not a sanctionable level !

NO WONDER people want to see him throw his hook !

WADA & IOC have seen him depart , when will he do the same at UCI ?

Slept overnight in an old house in Bazaar in 1995. There was a huge pear tree by the railroad tracks.
