This is Marianne Martin, who orgainized the Coor’s reunion. She won the 1st Tour de France for women. I haven’t riden with someone with downtube shifters in a long, long time.

Downtube shifters are awesome! Light, interactive and quiet. It gives your arms something to do as well. I remember following the incredible Bruce Donaghy once in a race and marveling at how fast and often he shifted. Watching him work his gears was like a seminar.

I actually got cycling trivia stumped by a Marianne fact: Who was the first American to win a Tour de France bike race? Bet 99.9% of the cyclists out there and they’ll be buying your next round!
